Biography

Anna-Lou "Annie" Leibovitz was born in October 2nd 1949 in Waterbury, Connecticut. She is the third of six children. Her father, Sam Leibovitz, was a lieutenant colonel in the US Air Force. Her mother Marilyn Leibovitz was a modern dance instructor. Annie Leibovitz studied painting at the San Francisco Art Institute. She has a romantic relationship with essayist Susan Sontag. According to San Francisco Chronicle, "Leibovitz has three children: Sarah Cameron Leibovitz (b. October 2001), was born when Leibovitz was 51 years old. Her twins Susan and Samuelle were born to a surrogate mother in May 2005"

Leibovitz became chief photographer of Rolling Stone magazine in 1973. Her raw photographs of celebrities helped defined Rolling Stone look. One of her more famous cover for Rolling Stone is of John Lennon before he passed away.

In 1980, Leibovitz shifted her style and began photographing for American fashion magazine Vanity Fair.

In 2007, Leibovitz photographed for Walt Disney Company's "Year of a Million Dreams" campaign.
